Der Gelebte Raum: A conversation between Michael Sailstorfer, Franz Xaver Baier and Lukas Feireiss

Space is the place. Our spatial existence, what it means and what we can do with it!

A conversation between Franz Xaver Baier, Michael Sailstorfer and Lukas Feireiss

As part of the current solo exhibition by Michael Sailstorfer BNKR invites to a conversation between the artist Michael Sailstorfer, exhibition curator Lukas Feireiss, and phenomenologist and author Franz Xaver Baier.

Franz Xaver Baier, professor for architecture (Art + Design Research) at Hochschule Munich, studied architecture, philosophy and art history and is the author of numerous publications on the subject of space. His book Raum. Zu einer Architektur des gelebten Raumes (Verlag der Buchhandlung Walter König) already published in 1996 in German Langauge opens up new phenomenological perspectives on architecture, art and other fields of experience. According to Baier all phenomena are defined by spatial aspects and at the same time have spatial consequences. With his radical theory about living space Baier looks at the moving spatial backdrop against which we exist and discusses its consequences with Michael Sailstorfer and Lukas Feireiss.

Under the title SPACE IS THE PLACE the upcoming exhibition cycle 2018-2019 (September 2018 – July 2019) conceived by Berlin-based curator Lukas Feireiss is dedicated to the artistic exploration of space. Through numerous events, solo and group exhibitions as well as an international symposium, SPACE IS THE PLACE investigates the experience, imagination and design of space in theory and practice together with artists, architects, philosophers and scientists.
